The gift of liquor is one of the few that gives back. When you bring a bottle in a gesture of politeness, friends and acquaintances usually open it. Therefore, it's incumbent on you to have good taste, because you'll likely be spending time with that bottle.
Cellar Rat has an "unconventional 6pk" of Smokestack Series
offerings from Boulevard -- a 750ml bottle of Tank 7, Harvest Dance
Wheat Wine, Double Wide IPA, Sixth Glass Quadrupel, Long Strange
Triple, and Saison. The six-pack is $50, plus tax.
"We sold six the other day," says Cellar Rat managing partner Ryan Sciara. "It's something that people really seem to want."
The other holiday special that caught my eye is Cellar Rat's suggestion of giving a top shelf bar: 360 Vodka, Hayman's Old Tom Gin, Hirsch Small Batch Bourbon, Isle of Skye 8 Year Scotch, Gosling's Black Seal Rum, Dolin Dry Vermouth and Dolin Sweet Vermouth for $165.
"I just tried to mix and match some choices you won't find every day," says Sciara.
These are the kinds of friends we should all wish for. Because, as everyone knows, if you could just get your hands on better liquor, your cocktails would really take off. If you decide that you're close with somebody but not close enough to outift their entire bar, the Gosling's Black Seal Rum is a hidden jewel. It's got a deep, intense flavor of molasses that will make a Dark and Stormy your new favorite drink.
