Where to drink on Christmas night

If you need to escape the family or just want to take everyone out for a drink, you have a fair number of options on Christmas night.

The restaurant in O'Dowd's Little Dublin Irish Pub at Zona Rosa opens at 6 p.m., offering $3.50 pints of Boulevard Wheat. If you want the feel of an Irish pub in Shawnee, Waxy O'Shea's opens the doors at 6:30 p.m.

Hotels are also a good bet. Most have a mellow vibe and you can probably sit and chat with the bartender. If you want wine, opt for the Oak Room at the Intercontinental, while a decent martini can be found at Chaz on the Plaza inside the Raphael Hotel.

Casinos are another easy possibility if you have a large group. Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill at the Harrah's North Kansas City rocks country tunes starting at 9 p.m. The Amerisports Brew Pub is open until 1 a.m. with the kitchen serving until midnight.

The Record Bar opens at 9 p.m. BB's Lawnside BBQ hosts the Dog House Daddles, also starting at 9 p.m. For those looking to abstain from alcohol or to bring the whole family out, the Screenland Crown Center opens on Christmas Day.

And don't forget to tip your servers and bartenders well. After all, Christmas is about the joy of giving.

Grinder's (both sides) on 18th is open, but you might want to think twice about going out - it's REALLY nasty out there. We just got back from driving out to Independence for Christmas with my daughter and granddaughters, and it was terrible. We got stuck three different times, and twice it was only the kindness of strangers who stopped to help push that got us moving again.

Stay home where it's warm - trust me.

The Blue Moose in PV opens at 6 p.m., too. That's where I'll be! I'm bringing Taboo along with me...should be a good time!

Davey's Uptown is open too! cheaper drinks than all the other places you listed... and a much better atmosphere in my opinion.
