The world is about to discover what a lot of people in Kansas City probably already know: There are some fantastic fried chicken restaurants in the state of Kansas.
The Morning Sun reports that the Travel Channel is coming to southeastern Kansas in mid-January to film at Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's in Crawford County. While the exact subject matter of the program hasn't been released, the filming schedule appears to suggest that a competition to decide which chicken restaurant is better could be possible. (The story even has a Twilight reference, suggesting you can pick sides between Team Annie and Team Mary.)
Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's were two of the six fried chicken restaurants in Crawford County contending to be one of the Eight Wonders of Kansas Cuisine earlier this year. The filming is slated for January 15 and 16, in case you're hoping to make it onto the Travel Channel.
As a piece of friendly advice: The film crew should also take the time to head up further north to Abilene, where the Brookville Hotel serves fried chicken and biscuits worthy of a road trip and the cream-style corn is tasty and rich enough to be a meal unto itself.
Who else should make the cut when it comes to fried chicken in Kansas?

they are both far better than anything in kansas. we also like chicken annies in girard
I have worked at both chicken mary's and chicken annies. I now live in Kansas City and still return, and recommend to others. You're missing something good if you don't try the fried chicken hearts from either, although I also buy from chicken annies in Girard as well as the annex south of Pittsburg.
I ate at Chicken Annie's last night! I take turns between Annie's and Mary's, I love 'em both. I like Annie's german 'tater salad, and onion rings best, but like Mary's chicken just slightly better than Annie's. I'm glad they're getting a little recognition.
You're joking about the Brookville Hotel, right? We stopped there this past summer, based on its reputation, and were severely disappointed. The canned, creamed corn, tasty? Yecch. Your money is far better spent at Strouds, or even Boston Market.
