Without water, polar bears are naturally drawn to ice. Thus, you might want to think about what's going to be your drink on the rocks at the first annual Polar Bear Pub Crawl at the Power & Light District this Friday from 8 to 11 p.m.

With six bars participating, an crawlers getting commemorative T-shirts and the chance to win $1,000 worth of gasoline, KC Live! could be a zoo. The entry is $5 and all of the proceeds go to Harvesters.

The $5 gets you a Polar Bar card, which entitles you to free cover and drink specials at Shark Bar, McFadden's Sports Saloon, Raglan Road Irish Pub, Living Room, Tengo Sed Cantina, and PBR Big Sky. You have to get your card stamped at each location to be eligible for the gas prize or second place -- $600 in gift certificates to P&L locations. Best "winter costume" earns $250 in cash.

You can pick up your card at 8 p.m. (no need to pre-register). Winners will be announced from the KC Live! stage [update from P&L communications staff: at McFadden's Sports Saloon] at 11 p.m.  While you're drinking, you can raise your scotch and water to those poor suckers who are forced to jump into a freezing body of water in order to be called polar bears.
