The K. City Coffee House and Wine Bar opened in the River Market on Monday.

Husband-and-wife team Kina and Rob Gunnels are behind the newest coffee shop at 412B Delaware Street. The site formerly housed Eljay's River Market Coffee House, which closed last July.

K. City has its own blend from The Roasterie and a full menu of coffee drinks -- espressos, cafe latte and frappes. Drip coffee is reasonably priced ($1.70, $1.90, and $2.15) and can have flavors, a shot of espresso or soy or organic milk added for 50 cents.

A wide range of breakfast options includes cinnamon rolls ($2.25), bagels ($1.60, $2.05 with cream cheese), oatmeal ($1.25), meat and cheese croissants ($3.75), quiche ($4.75), and muffins, scones and apricot bars ($2).

There are meal possibilities, too. Four sandwiches -- the Tysen (smoked turkey breast), the Karter (smoked ham), the Christian (roast beef), and the Adonis (oven roasted chicken breast) -- are $6.75. On Tuesday there were soups: chicken noodle, tomato and veggie (cup: $3, bowl: $4). And there's a house, caesar or greek salad for $6.25 (can add chicken for $1). A half sandwich with cup of soup or small salad is $6.50.

The coffee shop has an active Twitter feed and will be launching an open-mic series on January 14. It's open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

we liked eljays , and the roasterie is one of our favorite coffee shops. So it was very easy to walk into KCity and feel at home. The owners are right there to welcome you as you walk in. Today we ate breakfast there for the first time. Simple yet good. And I always want more coffee when i finish my cup. Its freakin addictive . They read the comments that are posted and really try to make the changes that people would like to see. My wife and I are all about supporting local buisness and i give this 5 out of 5 coffee cups. great job guys ...see you next sunday ...the herrons

Sorry Buddy
This is a great place to have coffee. The fact that the owners are using a local coffee doesnt mean they are looking for an easy way out. It means they are keeping dollars local and supporting another business in our community. If you think you can do better we would love to see you try and would like to hear about it soon! Yeah I dont think so. But people like K City owners are already ready for those of your kind Im sure so bring it baby! They are ready with coffee, wine and great customer service!!!

Another lame-o coffee shop in KC using Roasterie coffee because it's easy. We'll go down there to check it out, but based on what I've heard and by checking out their Twitter page there's a lack of appreciation for coffee. This is why these shops don't last long. The River Market needs good coffee BAD, so hopefully they will prove us wrong.
