Grocery-store check-out

Here's an update on some interesting goings on at area grocery stores.

You can finally start your day off with Wheaties Fuel -- the cereal that was supposed to roll out in September. The cereal has been touted as the evolution of Wheaties, because athletes such as including Albert Pujols and Kevin Garnett (pictured) helped with the creation and product testing. If you're not looking to move faster in the morning, you might consider the Chocolate Cheerios or Trix Swirls.

The Around the Block blog recently stopped by Leawood's Dean & Deluca to try out the new hot sandwich bar

and ended up praising the Reuben and sweet potato fries. It sounds like

these can't be considered grocery store sandwiches, although the prices

also reflect that reality.

To follow up on Fat City's recent ode to cane sugar in soda, you'll be glad to know that Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback have been joined by Heritage Dr. Pepper (this display is from the Prairie Village Hy-Vee on State Line). Previously the only way to get Dr. Pepper with cane sugar was to purchase Dublin Dr. Pepper, made with the soda's original formula in Dublin, Texas. This is the soda that's perhaps most improved by using cane sugar. Buy some now.

Two area grocery stores are also regularly updating their Twitter feeds. Hen House frequently posts news of specials, while the Prairie Village Hy-Vee began sending out Tweets last week.
