To celebrate the opening of the area's ninth LaMar's Donuts, the storied franchise is giving away a free Ray's Original glazed donut and small brewed coffee to customers who come to the shop between Thursday, January 21, and Saturday, January 23.
The latest LaMar's opens at 12520 Quivira in Overland Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 8 a.m. today. With the new Dunkin' Donuts on W. 151st Street, U.S. 69 may have to be renamed the donut highway.
"LaMar's Donuts has a long-standing history in Kansas City and we're excited to expand our presence," said Jami Blair, LaMar's marketing director. "In addition to our hand-made donuts, we will be offering a full-line of coffee, espresso and specialty beverages and an expanded menu, including breakfast sandwiches, muffins, yogurt parfaits, desserts, soup and more."
It should be interesting to see how yogurt parfaits and egg sandwiches fly at a spot known for donuts, bizmarks and an occasional fritter. It will be hard to pass up a chocolate iced with coconut for the soup of the day.
I've heard it said that LaMar's donuts have been the best since Ray LaMar opened the original store in 1960. The proof could be in the franchising -- today, there are 28 locations in six states.
