When you have a chocolate dessert that fails to live up to what you've eaten earlier in the evening, it's a giant letdown. But a great chocolate dessert can turn an ordinary meal into a great evening.
So listen up chocophiles -- and the rest of you who say, "I'm stuffed, but maybe I could find some room for chocolate." Here are the top five chocolate desserts in the city.
5. Fox's Drug Store -- Chocolate malt. Approved by both Walt Bodine and Charles Ferruzza, the malt at this Raytown relic is a tall, thick glass of comfort.
4. Peppercorn Duck Club -- Ultra Chocolatta Bar. It had me at complimentary chocolate dessert bar and chocolate-covered strawberries. The only downside is we always eat too many chocolate pastries.
3. d'Bronx -- Chocolate brownie. It is chewy and easily the size of your fist. This isn't so much dessert as it is a meal. Best of all, it's $1.50.
2. Andre's Confiserie Suisse -- Matterhorn. We don't have any mountains around here, but this heap of dark chocolate with a cleverly arranged bit of white icing is the most delicious mountain-shaped dessert in these parts.
1. Julian -- Chocolate pudding with a ginger donut (Chef Celina Tio is seen making it in the Restaurant Week video above). The kick of the donut with the milk-chocolate pudding and a dash of sea salt is transcendent. Incredibly, it's less than 400 calories -- if such things matter to you.
