Then it's on to the romance languages at the Culinary Center of Kansas City. The Cooking for Couples Homestyle Mexican: Classic Fiesta Class is on Friday, February 5, at 6:30 p.m. Former CCKC Sous Chef Sergio Lara has returned to lead a three-hour class on how to make some of his family's favorite dishes, including chili rellenos, sopa de pasta and caramel flan. The class is $140 for two people.
A few days later, you can learn the secrets of Italian cooking with Chef Jasper J. Mirabile Jr.'s Tears of Napoli Class. On Monday, February 8, at 6:30 p.m., Mirabile walks students through making fresh mozzarella, pasta mont vesuvio and a Neopolitan tart. The class is $60 per person.
On Monday, February 15, Daniel Fikru shows students how to make injera (the spongy, flat national bread of Ethiopia) and misir watt (red lentils in berbere sauce) in his Communiversity class on vegetarian Ethiopian cooking. The class is $27 and meets at the Blue Nile Cafe in the River Market from 5 to 7 p.m.
And you couldn't ask for an easier introduction to Indian food than Chicken Tikka Masala -- the chicken marinated in yogurt and spices before being bathed in a tomato cream sauce is as mild as it is tasty. Ajay Sood teaches how to make the dish on Wednesday, February 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. The class is $21 and meets at the Westport Roanoke Community Center.
