This morning my coffee ice cubes offered a sign that it was time to post Valentine's Day menus
Like New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day can be more hype than joy. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy a good meal.

Grand Street Cafe offers a trio of special dishes on February 13 and 14: a soy glazed Chilean sea bass with bok choy, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, bean sprouts, sticky rice and lobster consomme ($32); a six-ounce filet and two grilled jumbo prawns with oyster mushroom potato hash, creamy spinach, maytag bleu cheese and a demi glaze ($36); and three-cheese ravioli hearts with shrimp, snow peas, roasted tomatoes in a lemon pepper cream sauce ($20).

North in Leawood has a three-course menu. Beef tenderloin carpaccio and dungeness crab are among the seven appetizers; apple cider pork tenderloin and seared scallops top the entrees; and a Nutella mousse cake with toasted hazelnuts and sour cherry croissant bread pudding with vanilla bean gelatto are on the dessert menu. Early birds catch the special -- the three course menu is $35 between 4 and 5:30 p.m. Because Valentine's Day falls on a Sunday, that's not that hard to make; if you miss it, it's $55 a person.

The Majestic Restaurant has assembled a prix fix menu in addition to its standard a la carte offerings. It's rolling out the Chateaubriand (for two), a home-made she-crab soup, and a homemade flourless chocolate cake with homemade whipped cream and red berries for $85 per couple. If you're looking for jazz to set the mood, make your reservation for the lower level where the Bram Wijnands Trio plays from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The Drop's Chef Kelli Daniels has put together a Valentine's Day menu in honor of her late father, Chef Lewis Daniels, that celebrates his love of Mediterranean and lower Mississippi Delta styles of cuisine: pan-fried organic chicken drumettes; a baby spinach, manchego, crisp prosciutto salad with lemon-chive vinaigrette; beer-braised piedmontese short rib with crispy polenta and collard greens; and a grilled chicory pound cake with house-made spiked hot cocoa and cinnamon whipped cream. The four-course prix fixe menu is $100 per couple with seatings beginning at 5 p.m.
