The dining room was quiet on Thursday just after noon at The Drum Room, so that means Kansas Citians are likely missing the well-thought out menu of the sunlit spot in the President Hotel.

The $15 prix fixe for lunch at included a salad, soup and sandwich course -- and this could be your one meal for the day. It features items not on the regular menu with a generous salad to start and then manageable portions for the rest of lunch.

The golden baby beet salad (pictured above) with Asian pears, warm goat cheese and a hazelnut vinaigrette is one of the three salad options.

The asparagus, mozzarella and heirloom tomato salad with basil dressing is pictured above, while the third salad option is a baby spinach salad with apples, blue cheese, spiced walnuts, pancetta crumbles and red wine vinaigrette.

The soup course comes served in a tea cup and you have your choice of French onion with a house crostini and melted Gruyere (above right), potato leek with white and chives (above left) and tomato bisque with creme fraiche and garlic flatbread.

The pulled pork reuben sliders (pictured above) were one of the three sandwich choices. I've been thinking about pulled pork sliders since my lunch at The Well on Wednesday, so the marinated pulled pork with Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing was an easy decision. It comes with a side of coleslaw. The second sandwich choice is a chicken basil sandwich with spinach, basil pesto, roasted red peppers, red onion and mayonnaise on a challah bun.

The steakhouse sandwich was the standout of our lunch -- thinly sliced sirloin with red onions, whole grain dijon, beemster cheese on a stirato roll. It was like a decadent dessert -- I wanted to stop eating, but couldn't.
