You need plans. Fat City has a recycle bin full of listings. In this post, all our problems are solved.
This weekend is about Valentine's Day. Those who find Sunday to be an exercise in rapture should be pleased by what follows -- but for those who could care less, we've got you covered too.
Romantics as well as skeptics can find common ground over turnovers and puffed pastry. Johnson County Community College's Pastry Shop continues its Friday sales during the semester between 3 and 6 p.m. Although, as always, we recommend that you duck out of a work a bit early because they're usually sold out before 6 p.m.
For an irreverent take on Valentine's Day, stop by Californos in Westport tonight, where the Valentine's Massacre
Masquerade goes from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., with an Italian dinner buffet and gaming
tables. Wear your finest 1920s costume. Tickets are $10; call 816-531-1097 to make a reservation.
The Burlesque Downtown Underground takes over Crosstown Station for #1 Crush. The performance starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include a complimentary bottle of champagne.
Martini Corner's Sol Cantina
celebrates Second Fridays tonight from 6 to 8, when a $15
donation gets you into a happy hour with drinks and appetizers
included. If you bring five friends, you get in free. All the
proceeds benefit local kids' charities. Go sip a Corona and dream of
warmer days when the big garage doors will be open.
The Screenland Crossroads and Screenland Armour are showing Amelie and Casablanca respectively on Saturday and Sunday. Couples can get a bottle of wine, popcorn, Christopher Elbow chocolates and two tickets for $60. And if you need it, there's a full bar at the theater.
Two fundraisers this weekend benefit the relief efforts in Haiti. BB.'s Lawnside Barbecue donates the proceeds from tonight's pre-Mardi Gras performance by Ernest James Zydeco. It's a $5 donation for the cover and the show starts at 9 p.m.
And on Sunday, Bo Lings donates 20 percent of its Valentine's Day menu sales to the Heart to Heart Relief Fund. The $38 menu for two includes roast duck, smoked lamb chop with baby bok choy, shrimp and crab meat chow funn, and a coconut panna cotta with caramel sauce.
