Dunkin' Donuts locations are slowly taking over the area around Kansas City.
The chain, based out of Canton, Massachusetts, announced the addition of three stores in Independence and Blue Springs -- although the first won't open until 2011, and the other two are scheduled for 2013.
"I am excited to expand Dunkin' Donuts presence in Greater Kansas City
and play an important role in the daily lives of people who live and
work here," franchisee Sai Jitta said in a press release.
Jitta is a certified project manager who has worked for IBM for more than a decade. He joins area developer Verona Key LLC, who opened the first area store in Overland Park and began construction on a second store last month as part of the chain's push into the Kansas City market.
The stores keep circling the city, but some Fat City readers have
wondered when there will actually be a Dunkin Donuts in Kansas City proper -- perhaps even downtown.
For that, we might have to hold out until 2018. As the Kansas City Business Journal notes: "Dunkin' Donuts said in early 2008 that it planned to open more than 60 shops in the Kansas City area during the next decade."
