We're hoping there's no connection, but on the same day last week that Fat City posted a piece on
local chefs talking about their Easy-Bake ovens, the
Cincinnati Enquirer ran
the obituary of Ronald Howes, creator of the 47-year-old toy. Howes was the former director of research and new product development for Cincinnati-based Kenner Products; Kenner was later purchased by Hasbro, which continues to make the Easy-Bake Oven.
There were toy ovens -- including electric ones -- before Kenner introduced the Easy-Bake Oven, but the ability to market the product on television made the toy particularly desirable. Four decades of Easy-Bake Oven commercials led to TV parodies like this one.
Howes can rest in peace, knowing he inspired generations of young chefs.
