The Kansas House approved a statewide smoking ban on Thursday -- voting 68-54 to send the measure to Gov. Mark Parkinson's desk. The ban, which includes bars, restaurants, and workplaces, has several exceptions -- tobacco shops, private clubs, designated smoking rooms in hotels and the gambling floors of state-run casinos.
While Parkinson has not yet signed the bill into law, he has stated his intention to sign it. If signed, the bill would go into effect on July 1.
Should Gov. Mark Parkinson sign the statewide smoking ban into law?trends

Can you still become a private club and be able to smoke in your establishment before the law goes in to place?
I quit smoking over twenty-five years ago, but I support individuals' right to decide on risks, Second hand smoke doesn't cause cancer. It does affect some allergic people, but not with the instant lethal effect of such things as peanuts and milk. A little common sense should replace control freak mania about smokine.
Two issues:
1. Casinos are exempted. This is the same b.s. they pulled in KCMO. All you hear is the oh-so-concerned politicians spouting off about public health, followed by exemptions for groups who can afford to fight it.
2. Private clubs are exempted. I'm alright with that in theory, but how big is the loophole allowing a "public" bar to become a "private" club? Usually it's pretty easy.
I want to see a politician actually do the politically challenging thing (stand up to big gambling interests) instead of the politically easy thing. If it's truly about health, then it needs to be about health.
