The makers of HE'BREW -- Shmaltz Brewing Company -- are bringing the freak show to town with a tasting of Coney Island-inspired lagers at Grinders tonight.

The Albino Python white lager gets paired with morning glory muffins with charoses. The second course features mini bagels with cream cheese, lox and capers served with the Coney Island Lager. Next is the Messiah Bold and a Reuben pizza followed by the Jewbelation Bar Mitzvah and smoked brisket with Jewbelation barbecue sauce on Challah bread. Dessert is the Human Blockhead and chocolate dipped coconut macaroons.

The Schmaltz Brewing Company started in San Francisco in 1996 with HE'BREW, and has recently expanded its line with seven new beers -- the Coney Island Craft Lagers. The beers all take their names from Coney Island sideshow acts and the proceeds benefit Coney Island USA, a non-profit dedicated to preserving the art forms from the famous Brooklyn neighborhood.

All of the Coney Island Craft Lagers are brewed and bottled in New York. The line launched with five beers in 2008.

The five-course beer tasting is $31. It's a 21+ event and you can make reservations at 816-472-5454.
