Not content to duel it out over double cheeseburgers, Burger King is taking aim at another McDonald's staple -- the Egg McMuffin.
Burger King announced plans last week to introduce a $1 BK Breakfast Muffin: egg, sausage and American cheese on an English muffin. The company's memo indicated that this is the first of several changes to the breakfast menu:
Later this month, BKC will introduce its BK(R) Breakfast Muffin sandwich priced at more than one dollar and BK Breakfast Bowl to enchance its breakfast offerings. These product introductions are in advance of a new U.S. comprehensive breakfast platform launching later in the year and includes Seattle's Best Blend(R) coffee.
As to when the BK Breakfast Muffin is coming, Grub Grade has a target date of March 22 and what appears to be a promotional image. The Breakfast Bowl -- a disturbing idea that seems to encapsulate the "it all goes to the same place any way" school of thought -- would likely be introduced simultaneously. The bowl contains potatoes, grilled onions and peppers, a scrambled egg and sausage and cheese sauce. Perhaps it would sound more appetizing if they simply called it a "skillet."
Back in December, Burger Business (is there a finer name for a publication?) discussed Burger King's decision to move ahead with a English Muffin-based replacement for the Croissanwich. The breakfast sandwiches were test marketed in the Chicago area for the first time in the United States (Canadian Burger Kings have featured English muffin sandwiches for several years).
Burger King debuts its $1 BK Muffin Sandwich just ahead of raising the price of its double cheeseburger to $1.19 in order to appease franchisees; the BK Dollar Double will take its place on the $1 menu, with two patties and only one slice of cheese.
So the breakfast wars will begin anew at the end of this month, with the two heavyweights battling for every penny.

Our children don't need to see a corporation making fun of theft. BK is known for pushing the envelope in encouraging anarchy. I have no sense of humor in regards to such. What does it profit a man if he gains the world and loses his soul? A boycott of Bk and Pillsbury might not be a bad idea. The king is still subject to the King of Kings.
I had your $1.00 sausage egg cheese english muffin breakfast this morning and have a few comments.
Overall I liked it, and the price is great!
The english muffin needs to be a sourdough muffin, or something closer to the McDonals favorite of old
The egg needs to be a hard fried egg, not a scrambled egg.
I liked the sausage flavor but it is a bit bland.
Competition is a great thing and I will try your breakfast menu again in the future.
Is there no one at Burger King smart enough to know how to make an Egg McMuffin that they have to steal the plans? Good grief, the recipe is in the name. I've stopped going to Burger King for breakfast (well, and anytime for that matter). I used to like their cinni-minis but the last few times I've gone they are out with no plans of baking more. This is an overall problem with the BKs in the Twin Cities area. They are all poorly managed. Take a hint: When you run out of Cinni-minis before breakfast hours are over, bake more!
Must be the same folks running the places that didn't get how to make an egg muffin.
I tried it this morning and was very disappointed. As stated above, the "fake" egg was not visually appeasing, I almost took it off but I was driving and had nowhere to throw it. And as for the butter soaked english muffin, I don't know what was up with that. The sandwich tasted sweet, and honestly I am not going to be purchasing this again. I'd rather pay 3.50 for 2 McDonalds sandwiches... you get what you pay for.
Thumbs way down on this one, BK.
I think that the bk commerical is sooooo freakin hilarious i watched it so many times just rewinding it thank god for tvo cause that was SOOOOOOOOOOO funny!
Really, have you seen the comercial. Not original, but good enough! Thats so fucked up. Who would try to do such a thing.
As a loyal customer of the BK value menu I was excited to see this new item. Sadly, I must report that I tried one this morning. It was so bad it actually made me sick. It is nothing like the photo and bears no resemblance to an Egg McMuffin. The muffin was not toasted. It was so heavily soaked in a fake butter solution that the muffin actually squirted and dripped down my hand when bitten. I could maybe get by the processed liquid egg instead of the pseudo-poached that McD uses but the soppy muffin was disgusting. Unless BK changes their recipe on this one I'll never buy another.
Sirs:
I went to your restaurant here in Chattanooga, TN this morning and purchased your new Breakfast Muffin for $1 in fact I purchased 4 of them..... my comments are the following....
the sausage was good, and the muffin was fresh and of course the cheese.....BUT the EGG....hmmm was it egg or not???? One cannot tell as it was a little square of something that rezembled an egg...but didn't taste much like egg.
uggestion...if you want to compete with the MacMuffin....use a real egg and the whole thing as they use it.....it will still be a great value at $1.50 if that what you need to sell it for...fine...
Thanks for listening...
PS: I am 61 years old and love Breakfast
