Parkville's Pie Room is no more
Today's news that City Tavern -- the distinctive steakhouse in the historic Freight House -- was closing in twelve days reminded us that other popular venues in Fat City have closed over the last month or so.

We've already bid a fond farewell to Overland Park's Piccadilly Cafeteria, but only recently learned that Parkville's quaint Pie Room bakery and cafe has stopped serving home-made pies; the venue continues as The Hawthorne House, a catering and special events facility.

Also gone are the Lee's Summit and one-year-old Prairie Village locations of Cupini's Fresh Pasta & Panini.

There's some irony in this. City Tavern was just on Pass the Check Please and the guy that ripped all over Eden Alley had picked City Tavern as his restaurant. I guess you can't please everybody...

Tonight the sign on the door of Cupinis in PV said Closed for remodeling but I guess their website not listing them must mean permanently.

Too bad about City Tavern. We had some really great food and service there in early February

Orphan: We've mentioned the closing of the Peachtree in Lee's Summit in one of our earlier "Closed" posts, but I recently made the same observation that you did: the sign is still illuminated at night.

Add The Peachtree in Lee's Summit. Never heard an announcement but the lights are on but no one is there.
