Hey, Fat City friends -- here's a full plate of news from around the metro's restaurant scene.
Opening in May:
The second Dunkin Donuts franchise in Overland Park is moving closer to completion. Verona Key LLC, the developer of the restaurant at 7446 Metcalf (the corner of 75th and Metcalf), is targeting a late May opening. This location will have a drive-thru and will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Smashburger will open its second area location in Lawrence on Friday, May 14. The newest restaurant is at 4801 Bauer Farm Drive. The menu features the Kansas City Smashburger (grilled onions, garlic sauteed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, haystack onions and A-1 steak sauce on an egg bun) as well as beers from Free State Brewery.

Next Door Pizza & Pub
opened on January 31 in Lee's Summit (3385 SW Fascination Drive), but
the pizza restaurant celebrates its official grand opening on Thursday,
May 6. The menu includes Chicago style and thin crust pizza -- all of
the dough is made in-house. The beer selection is outstanding with
Founders, Lagunitas, Anchor Steam, Left Hand and Boulevard's Tank 7 on
tap. The pizza shop is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Monday to
Thursday), 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (Friday, Saturday), and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Planet Sub has opened its 11th location in Kansas at 6915 Johnson Drive in Mission -- the former Toto's Coffee space. The sub shop is open for breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. and lunch/dinner from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The phone number is 913-232-7424. You can fax in orders to 913-232-6942.
B:2 -- the casual burger dining concept from Blanc Burgers + Bottles -- opened in Lee's Summit on Tuesday, April 22. The third location from the local Circle Restaurant Group is in the Summit Faire development. The burger boutique serves burgers that are 2 ounces smaller and $2 cheaper than those offered at Blanc. The Summit Burger is one of the new additions to the menu with blue cheese, pickled red onion, horseradish mayo and arugula on a potato bun. B:2 is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The phone number is 816-246-9696.
Danny's Big Easy is now open in the 18th & Vine District, serving the Cajun dishes such as gumbo and crawfish etouffee that diners could find in chef Paul "Danny" Gosserand's previous space at 1610 Main Street. His latest venture with partner Jean Stephens opened on Saturday, April 10. Danny's is open from Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch, Tuesday to Friday from 5:30 to 11 p.m. for dinner and 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Saturday.
