There's nothing like setting the mood on a sweet, soft bed ... of onions. In celebration of National Burger Month, White Castle recently unveiled its latest promotional item: a Slider-scented candle inside a ceramic hamburger sleeve.
The scent, courtesy of a partnership with the Candela Group's Laura, is that of a hamburger "steam-grilled-on-a-bed-of-onions." Two years ago we had meat-scented body spray from Burger King, so perhaps it's time that a major burger franchise engineered a home accessory aimed at the female demographic.
That said, I'm not certain society was dying for a hamburger-scented candle. Based on my previous trips to White Castle, I don't even want the smell to linger in my car after I've pitched the grease-spotted paper bag in the trash.
Plus, in today's real estate climate, I can't understand why anyone would bring such unholiness across the threshold:
Husband: "What is that smell?"
Real Estate Agent: "Um, fresh baked cookies?"
Wife: "No, it smells more like wet dog..."
Husband: "Oh dear sweet -- that's not dog, it's White Castle Slider! Run honey, run."
The candles are scheduled to be released this week. They're not yet available on White Castle's website, but you can buy a White Castle blend of coffee or shower curtain.
According to the press release from White Castle, the net proceeds of candle sales will go towards Autism Speaks, a nonprofit organization that looks to increase awareness of autism. These are your novelty dollars at work, people.
But for those who used to celebrate Valentine's Day at White Castle before the burger chain left Kansas City for brighter grilling surfaces, you can now recapture that romantic feeling whenever you want.
