May is National Burger Month, so if you need a justification for nailing down a quarter-pounder, you're welcome. Fat City has rounded up a few of the burger specials around town, many of which you can continue to enjoy long after this national month of beefery.
Smashburger has a month-long series of specials. Today through Thursday at the Overland Park location (6551 West 119th Street) fries are free with the purchase of a burger. On Tuesday, May 25, buy one entree and get a free 1/3 pound Smashburger. And on Friday, May 28, everybody who purchases a Smashburger could win burgers, fries and a drink for a year. You can also submit an entry into the biggest fan contest this month for the same prize.
Smashburger will open its Lawrence location (4801 Bauer Farm Drive) this Friday. In addition to the KC Hot Link -- featuring Gates Bar-B-Q sauce, cheddar cheese and haystack onions -- the Lawrence Smashburger will have Free State beer available.
Blanc Burgers + Bottles continues its happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday to Friday. The classic sliders are $2; appetizers and fries are half off; and gouda fondue fries are $4. It's also 2-for-1 on Missouri beers and $3 off large-format bottles such as Boulevard's Smokestack series.
The Hotel Phillips' 12 Baltimore launched its Burger, Beer and Baseball special last week. Every
Sunday night, it's $10 for the restaurant's signature 12B burger -- smoked cheddar
cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion on a brioche bun -- and a Boulevard
draft. And there's a big-screen monitor in the bar, so even if
the game isn't that great, it will still be pretty to watch.
Hamburger Mary's has Wayback Wednesdays for the foreseeable future. VJ Brett Dietrich plays classic videos from the '60s, '70s and '80s from 7 to 11 p.m. Boulevard Wheat drafts are $3 and Mary's Milk -- the restaurant's own beer -- is on tap for $1.
The Cheesecake Factory is also holding a contest. Until May 31, The Great Glamburger Challenge lets diners design the newest addition to the chain's six, regionally inspired glamburgers. Some of the current entries include the meat lover's burger (fried egg, salami, applewood smoked bacon, vidalia onion, pepperoni, steak sauce, yellow mustard) and the Tropical Swine (Swiss, garlic aioli, red onion, tomato, romaine lettuce, fried egg, pineapple). Whichever one wins, popular sentiment would suggest that a fried egg will be part it.
And because no bun should go untouched, let us know what we've missed.
