Where's my Absolut Kansas City?

"Ah, San Diego...drink it in, it always goes down smooth," -- Ron Burgundy, circa 1970.

While the essence of San Diego hasn't yet been bottled -- you'll have to settle for a deep breath -- Brooklyn is now available in bottle form. Absolut Vodka has collaborated with director Spike Lee to create a limited edition Absolut Brooklyn, which has red apple and ginger flavors (though I'd would have imagined it tasting of clove cigarettes and flannel -- the preferred flavors of hipsters).

But this isn't the hipster's Brooklyn, it's Spike Lee's interpretation of his hometown. The label depicts a stoop and the front of a brownstone with the same number (165) as Lee's childhood home in the Cobble Hill neighborhood. The original manufacturer of Absolut -- Lars Olsson Smith, whose image appears on the seal of every bottle -- is adorned with Lee's trademark cap and glasses.

Absolut Vodka chose the iconic New York borough as the fourth city in a series it launched in 2007; New Orleans, Los Angeles and Boston have previously been featured.

Absolut Boston was elderflower and black tea-flavored -- I'll assume that's a nod to the Boston Tea Party, since I don't see Boston as an elderflower city. Absolut Los Angeles is blueberry, acerola cherry, acai berry and pomegranate -- a busy spirit for a busy metropolis. Absolut New Orleans was black pepper and mango, which probably makes the most sense: a bit sweet and a bit spicy, like the rum-based Hurricane cocktail linked to the city.

Now the challenge is to entice Absolut to pick Kansas City as the next offering in the series. But let's avoid gimmicks, like bacon or meat-infused vodka, and instead focus on drinkability. After all, Kansas City is beginning to get a reputation for pushing the edge on cocktails. We should avoid taking any steps backwards.

Any ideas on what flavors should be captured as Absolut Kansas City?

A bar bq flavored vodka? Great, now which one? Gates, Bryants, LC's...? More smoke flavor than honey sweet? I like this idea.

Maybe it should taste like regret, failure and promises?

my friend recently macerated tomatoes in vodka for his savory drinks. it was interesting. if you could combine that with the taste of brown sugar and some form of hot pepper you might have something akin to bbq.

Absolut New Orleans is just plain gross. It is a flavor nobody wants to taste.

It should taste like water since Kansas City wants to be the City of Fountains.

BBQ sauce. Gross, but representative. Slightly less gross but still in the theme of BBQ, smokey vodka.
