Smashburger is continuing its manifest destiny takeover of 119th Street. The Denver-based chain opens its second Johnson County location on Tuesday, August 3, in Olathe (15241 West 119th Street).
A Smashburger opened three months ago in Overland Park at 6551 West 119th Street. The Kansas City area is not the only place to experience a Smashburger boom. The company intends to open 100 to 125 new franchises this year.
Burgers, hot dogs and salads make up the menu at the fast-casual restaurant. The sides include fried pickles, haystack onions and fries. The specialty Smash fries come dotted with rosemary, garlic and olive oil. Be warned, though: Don't order them unless you love rosemary.
The name is drawn from the method of burger cooking. The 1/3- or 1/2-pound patties are smashed on the grill before they are cooked. The Kansas City Burger is a regional specialty with grilled onions, garlic sauteed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, haystack onions and A-1 steak sauce on an egg bun.
To drink you can get a milkshake made with Haagen-Daaz ice cream or a root beer float, in addition to fountain drinks. The Olathe location will have beer (including Boulevard) and wine as well.
This post will be updated with hours and grand opening details as they become available. The restaurant will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

great, more places for fat housewives to stuff their fat kids face with.
Yes, rosemary is a very strong flavor and should be used with caution. Smashburger throws caution to the wind...I felt the rosemary was a little too strong and wouldn't get the Smashfries again. Some people, though, love them.
