You need plans. Fat City has a recycle bin full of listings. In this post, all our problems are solved.
It's not often that you get to see a submarine commissioned in Kansas City. But that's the drill on Saturday as the Boulevard Brewery sponsors a live broadcast of the commissioning ceremony for the USS Missouri in Groton, CT on the Power & Light District's KC Live! Stage.
The festivities run from 9:30 a.m. to noon with breakfast and lunch specials, as well as plenty of limited edition merchandise. Boulevard has donated $1 for every barrel of beer sold in the state since May 1 in order to help fund the commissioning.
Wine drinkers can still rock out. The Wine Barn Winery in Kansas City, Kansas, kicks off the weekend with its Rock n Roll Friday Nights Live Music. Know Idea with guest Sarah McVey will be playing live music on the outdoor patio from 6 to 9 p.m. A $5 cover gets you barbecue and wine tasting.
There aren't many vegetarian food courts in Kansas City. But vegetarians and vegans get a day to shine on Sunday with Bliss Fest 2010.
The eco-conscious festival lasts from noon to 9 p.m. at English Landing
Park (173 English Landing Drive) in Parkville. Sample dishes from among
the food vendors (those include Fud and Cafe Cedar) while watching food
demonstrations, sponsored by Whole Foods. Tickets are $5; kids get in
free.
Tractor pulls and pie-baking contests are summer rituals for a reason.
Enjoy both at the Douglas County Fair (2110 Harper in Lawrence) from
Friday, July 30, through Saturday, August 7. Visit dgcountyfair.com for a complete schedule of events.
You had me at mussels, Westport Cafe & Bar.
The new Westport eatery has just launched an afternoon happy-hour menu
from 3 to 6 p.m. daily. The mussels with shaved fennel and roasted
tomatoes are $5, and the steak frites are $10. Vegetarians can try the
spring-pea ravioli in brown butter for $5. Draft beers are $3.
