The burgers are on the grill and the fries are in the oil. Smashburger opens its second location on 119th Street today -- its first in Olathe. The Denver-based burger chain will sling burgers at 15241 West 119th Street from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Burgers, fries and shakes (made with Haagen-Daaz) are the menu staples. Hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and salads are also available. Among the sides are haystack onions (think onion straws) and veggie frites (fried asparagus spears, carrot sticks and green beans).
Smashburger gets its name from the practice of smashing and then searing burgers on the grill. The chain also has its own special sauce -- a blend of
mayonnaise, yellow mustard, pickle relish and lemon juice.
As part of the opening-week celebration, Smashburger is donating $1 for every Kansas City Smashburger sold at the Olathe location between today and August 10 to TLC for Children & Families Inc. The Kansas City Smashburger is Angus beef with grilled onions, garlic-sauteed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, haystack onions and A-1 sauce on an egg bun.
Smashburger opened a second area location in Overland Park back in April at 6551 West 119th Street.

like johnson county need another burger joint?
Way overkill on the burgers! Can you say 5 guys, Red Robin, etc?
"know when to say when"
WHEN
well now sometimes chains are good like when you cant afford a fence you just chain FIdo up and thats that! Also...If you end up in Missoula MT and ya want a Double whopper then ya look for that Burger King eh? Yes...sometimes local food is excellent BUT its comforting to the out of towner to see some familiar grub, no? Hey..I bet that Burger King employs LOCAL teenyboppers. I suppose you want us Americans to eat American only? What about my Chinese take out? gotta have my General Tso chicken man!
Fastmetal,
While I generally agree, not all chains are created equal. Case in point: Smashburger. I dare you to have one of their burgers and not say it's damn good.
My absolute favorite burger in the metro is served on Justus Drugstore's patio. It's nothing if not delicious and local. That being said, I also think Smashburger makes a very good burger.
I'll also give points to Smash for creating a local burger and serving Boulevard. Gotta count for something, right?
