Jerry's (not Woodswether) Cafe coming in September

Jerry Naster will be back in business...on the south side
Most fans of Jerry's Woodswether Cafe in the West Bottoms don't know that the man who founded the diner (now at 1414 West Ninth Street after many years on curvy Woodswether Road), Jerry Naster, no longer owns his namesake venue.

Naster sold the Ninth Street venue three years ago after his wife died. "In retrospect, I realize it was a terrible mistake to sell the restaurant," Naster says now. "I should have closed it for a spell and reopened it when I got my life back together."

For the past few weeks, Naster has been hard at work creating a new restaurant that will bear his name and serve his recipes. Naster hopes to open Jerry's Cafe, a small diner seating about 55 people, by September 1 at 1209 West 103rd Street, in the State Line Road shopping center next to Jasper's Restaurant. In fact, the Mirabile family owns the shopping center and encouraged Naster to take over the space vacated by the short-lived Georgie Porgie's bruncheonette.

"We think Jerry's going to do a great job with the space," Leonard Mirabile says. Naster hopes that after a few months, if he can build up the business, he'll expand Jerry's Cafe into an adjoining storefront.

"This restaurant will be, like the original restaurant on Woodswether Road, breakfast and lunch only," Naster says. "I'll offer lox and bagels, lox and eggs, a 9-ounce burger and all the old dishes from my days starting out in the West Bottoms."

Naster said the decor will be "very simple -- all the attention will be on the food." The hours of the new Jerry's Cafe will be 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. "Yes, I'm going to be open on Sundays now," Naster says. "We were never open Sundays in the Bottoms, but the customers I've spoken with in this neighborhood really want me to serve on Sunday mornings, and I think the business is here."

they may have cleaned up the place, but the quality of the food went downhill, like a sled on a snow covered hill.

Classy use of a blog comment section to air out grievances. Kudos.

This is a blatant misrepresentation by mr.ferruzza and Jerry naster the not so subtle use of the name woodswether is a gross violation of all things decent in journalism at fair trade Mr Naster sold jerrys woodswether cafe Jan 1st.2009, that's only 20 mos. Not 3 years .The business has improved sense then. My niece and my wife have cleaned up and fixed up the cafe. They also have a liquor license, and or open evenings. this formally fitly cafe is now a clean family cafe. come see for yourself 1414w. 9th st
