Saturday should be renamed Sausageday in Mission. Because that's the only day of the week that Werner's Specialty Foods sells it handmade sausages from a stand in front of the German foods shop.
The links are grilling and there's usually a small line right when the cart opens at 11 a.m. The line only gets longer, and though the cart in theory stays open until 2:30 p.m., the supply sometimes runs out well before then. Getting there before noon is a must.
The smoked polish is a thing of meaty beauty. The sausage is a mixture of beef and pork with great salt and peppery juices sealed in by natural casing. You can hear the snap of the casing with your first bite. And this is one sausage that doesn't need a lot of condiments to shine, just a bit of spicy German brown mustard.
Eat your first one on the sidewalk because odds are you're going to be getting right back in line to order another one. Overeating is one of the great traditions of Saturday Sausageday.

Saturday and Thursday...I work just around the corner and the smell of grilled sausage on Thursday's is awesome.
You were bitchin about no delis in town. Werners is the best... and should be franchised if the girls behind the counter could be duplicated.
