Burger King's New York Pizza Burger is literally slices of meat

OK, kids, it's pizza burger night. It may sound a little weird, but it's happening. In September, Burger King will apparently roll out its New York Pizza Burger at its Whopper Bar location just off Times Square.

Imagine a more modern Burger King where you can customize your Whopper based on an exclusive menu -- that is the Whopper Bar concept. The pizza burger, which will only be at the New York spot, is four burger patties topped with pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce and a Tuscan pesto sauce.

A Hamburger Today delved into the pie-shaped burger to get a sense of whether it was more pizza or more burger:

I was surprised that it actually managed to convey both burgerness and pizzaness in a single bite. Of course, when you've got the assertiveness of that liquid smoke BK flavor mixed with plenty of pizza shaky spices, it's not too hard to light up the "burger" and "pizza" areas of the brain at once.
So just as you can't separate Tony Stark from Iron Man, perhaps this needs to be considered a pizza burger -- the same way handfuls of cheeseburger bites on a pizza make it a cheeseburger pizza.

Burger King is attempting to reverse engineer a pizza staple, although I can't get away from the idea that I've had something like this right here in Kansas City. But the restaurant that gets this right will earn the adoration of children and late-night revelers everywhere. I know the Humdinger Drive-In has pizza burgers on its menu, I've never been able to pull the trigger. Anybody had a pizza burger in town worth shouting about?
