Add Drunken Fish Sushi Restaurant and Lounge alongside Imo's Pizza and frozen custard on the list of St. Louis imports that have made their way up I-70 to Kansas City.
The Kansas City Business Journal reports that the sushi spot, which has three locations in St. Louis, will be taking over the former Bice Bistro space (14 E. 14th St.) in the Power & Light District. The restaurant team behind Drunken Fish is hoping to be open in time for the 2011 Big 12 Conference basketball tournament which starts on March 9.
If you want to get a sense of the Asian fusion restaurant, here's what the folks at our sister paper, The Riverfront Times, had to say:
Audacious sushi creations in a mod lounge setting: The Drunken Fish is like one giant experiment to see just how sexy raw fish (and other Japanese food styles) can go. The house rolls throw together everything but the sushi mat: crab meat, radish sprouts, scallions, carrots, eel sauce, avocado, baked scallops, asparagus, tempura, mayonnaise -- and, oh yeah, sometimes rice too.The Riverfront Times isn't kidding. Consider the Drunken Fish Roll, which combines shrimp tempura, Japanese mayo, asparagus, red tuna, eel sauce, masago, tempura crumbs and sprouts. I'm not sure how to feel about the Fried Cheese Steak Roll (seasoned steak, bell pepper, mushroom, onion, cream cheese, spicy mayo, tempura-battered and topped with eel sauce and garlic mayo), but I could be sold on the Big Easy Roll (spicy shrimp, lettuce and asparagus topped with seared blackened tuna, 7-spice sauce and black tobiko).
