All home cooks have a moment when they wonder if they could cut the mustard on the line in a restaurant kitchen. Julian's Celina Tio is giving foodies a chance to realize that dream with a challenge to design her Sunday family meal.
The idea for an informal restaurant tutorial came from a discussion with Murdick over a Blanc burger. Tio realized that a lot of her patrons might be interested in discovering whether they can put together a meal for service.
"The goal is to show people what it takes to execute a meal and how to turn their concepts into a restaurant menu," Tio says. "It just has to be a menu that fits with Julian and into our budget."
This is a friendly competition, not The Next Iron Chef. Tio was recently named as one of the 10 contestants on the next season of the Food Network show, which begins airing October 3. But rather than having diners compete against each other, she's using their enthusiasm for food to fuel her own creativity in the kitchen.
"Their passion for food is inspiring. It's exciting to get ideas from people that love food," Tio says.
Tio is still taking menu submissions. You can send her a direct message on Twitter to @JulianKC or send an e-mail to info@juliankc.com.
