No 24: Farmer greens salad at The Farmhouse

Salad just got interesting.
  • Salad just got interesting.

To whet your appetite for The Pitch's annual Best of Kansas City issue, we're counting down our favorite Top 50 dishes each weekday until October 7.

You had me at bacon, Salad. You...had...me..at...bacon. The farmer greens salad on the lunch and dinner menu at The Farmhouse in the River Market is a crunchy, salty, dastardly good way to convince you to eat your vegetables.

The textures in this dish blend beautifully. The crisp bacon contrasts with the greens coated with a sherry-dijon vinaigrette. A few forkfuls in, you'll encounter the orange-yellow yolk of a soft-boiled egg. The salad then transforms from crunchy to creamy.

At the edge of the plate is the ingredient that steals the show -- you'll want an entire meal of the polenta croutons, soft and grainy under a crunchy exterior.

There are few salads that I want at any time of day, but this is one I could eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I say ignore Bewlay! KALE salad? Blech. Not everyone likes that green, no matter how much people try to push it.

This salad at The Farmhouse sounds yummy! I wanna try to make it at home, maybe...:D

I cry lame. I'm tired of the bacon fascination. Why don't you focus on a real salad? The kale salad at Whole Foods would make anyone a fan of leafy goodness.
