There is an unwritten rule that by simply purchasing a coffee you are entitled to sit for an indeterminate amount of time inside of a coffee shop. But how long is too long? When do you go from regular morning customer to approaching the legal definition of squatter.

The idea of coffee campers is not a new one, but the ways in which coffee shops are handling customers who view their local java joint as a second home is all over the map. Some places cut Internet, others have taken away wall plugs. But nobody has quite decided exactly how long customers are entitled to set up camp.

I work in a coffee shop, and it's annoying when people come in for 6+ hours at a time, and only purchase a $2 coffee. Come one. We're not your office away from the office. Either pay up or get out.

My vote is a couple hours tops, unless you keep purchasing items.

And if you ever come in and use our internet without paying? I will stink-eye you to eternity.

The Filling Station is the worst. Tons of laptop users sitting at four tops for hours on end with many people waiting for a place to sit. Why can't laptop users sit together? At least two of them could share a table and the outlets.

Answer: As long as it takes to type a few paragraphs of that screenplay your writing and hope that people pay attention to you.
