Doughnut summit needed in Kansas City

It's safe to say that Kansas City is doughnut crazy. If you want to get into a debate that is nearly as heated as who makes the best barbecue in town, you only have to walk into a room and suggest that Lamar's or Fluffy Fresh or Donut King outshines all the others (Please note, I'm not actually making an argument here, just offering examples).

So with such a clear passion for doughnuts, I think it's time we welcomed doughnut cousins from around the world to our fair city. Yum Sugar has a slideshow of 10 doughnuts from various countries, all of which look like great additions to any state fair or coffee shop.

The format of an International Doughnut Summit would be simple. There would be seminars on glazing and toppings. I could envision lectures on nomenclature explaining that doughnut holes and munchkins are the same thing. We could induct new members into the doughnut hall of fame based on doughnut innovations or true commitment to doughnut excellence.

Best of all would be the Hall of Doughnuts. This would essentially work like the soda fountains of the world at Coca-Cola headquarters in Atlanta. You would have the opportunity to walk through a room wherein Berliners and Bombolini and Beignets were all waiting to be tasted.

October is National Doughnut Month, so we have a few weeks to get this together. Who wants to be on the steering committee? I promise we'll have doughnuts at each meeting.
