David and Rachel Finn didn't move very far when they decided not to renew the lease on the original location of their popular Mission bakery. They're just up the street.
Four weeks ago, the Finns re-opened the former Chacko's Bakery & Catering as Chacko's Eatery in a smaller, more efficient storefront space at 6009 Johnson Drive.
"We're very happy with the space," Rachel Finn said one recent morning as she assembled a boxed lunch for a customer. "And it's very easy to find."
And
easy to find is a good thing, especially on Thursday afternoons, when
the Finns -- who don't serve alcohol -- host a happy hour.
"It's a cookie-and-milk happy hour," Rachel Finn said. For $2.50 -- on Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. only -- Chacko's offers a choice of cookie and a glass of milk (or small coffee drinks, iced tea or soda). Fridays, the Finns host a weekly "Linner" from 2 to 5 p.m.
Linner?
"Since we only stay open until 5 p.m., it's a combination of lunch and dinner," Rachel said.
This week's Linner: white wine coq au vin (patrons can eat in the restaurant until 5 p.m. or buy the meal to take home). September 17's is pork and gnocchi, with beef stew with biscuit set to follow on September 24. For more information, call 913-671-8199.
