There is food that is heart-healthy. And then there is food that fuels your heart. Mom's Macaroni and Cheese from McCoy's Public House is just what the love doctor ordered.
Mom's Macaroni and Cheese comes out lava-hot in a white ceramic dish. The time it takes you to decide whether to dive in with a spoon or a fork should be just enough to avoid searing the roof of your mouth. The large dollop of cheddar -- the only yellow in this four-cheese blend -- acts like a runny yolk in an egg sandwich. You just dip into the macaroni shells and take a big bite. A sprinkling of toasted garlic breadcrumbs gives the dish a bit of crunch.
Although you can add peas and smoked bacon (broccoli and grilled chicken are also available) -- that's known as the Mac Daddy -- this is one of the few macaroni-and-cheese dishes in the city that can sit on its own. Just try not to fall in love.
