To whet your appetite for The Pitch's annual Best of Kansas City issue, we're counting down our favorite Top 50 dishes each weekday until October 7.
If beer is the bread of life, then give me a thick slice of Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale with every meal. Boulevard Brewery introduced Tank 7 into its Smokestack Series lineup last year, and since I tried it back in December, I've consistently kept a bottle tucked away in the back of my fridge.
It's the beer that I first show off as a product from Kansas City and the one that I know all beer drinkers, even those as persnickety as the fermenter for which the tasty brew is named, will like. With its golden straw color, citrus notes and dry finish, you'd never know that the 750-milliliter bottle was packing an 8-percent ABV punch.
To those who prefer it as an appetizer, Boulevard will be rolling out four-packs of 12-ounce Smokestack bottles in November -- Tank 7 included. Some Kansas Citians reject the idea that this is a cow town, but we can be proud of our farmhouse ale.
