It's National Sausage Pizza Day. Have you hugged a sausage pizza today?

Humankind can't live on veggie pizza alone. Tap into your carnivore cravings today and celebrate National Sausage Pizza Day. It's your duty as an American to celebrate a fictitious holiday with an unhealthy number of meat-laden pizza slices.

Use this excuse to dial up Waldo Pizza, Minsky's or Pizza Bella, in order to get some of the city's finest sausage offerings. And if somebody in the office complains, explain that it's your family's tradition to celebrate National Sausage Pizza Day. After that, just cite Fat City as proof that this is a real holiday.

All three pizza shops have outstanding sausage choices. This is a decision that should be made purely on geography and the style of pizza you feel like. The shops are organized in order of crust thickness, from thin to regular.

Sausage at Pizza Bella.

The thin-crust, wood-fired pie comes with fennel sausage, tomato, red

onion and Parmesan cheese. It should also come with a privacy screen.

One bite and you won't be sharing with the rest of the table.

Hawaiian at Waldo Pizza. Put together pineapple and Scimeca's Italian Sausage on Waldo's honey-wheat crust. You'll aloha the stuffing out of this one.

Sausage Trio at Minsky's. The Kansas City staple doesn't mess around when it comes to sausage. You can order Italian, American or lamb sausage. I've never worked up the courage to order all three on a single pizza, but maybe this is the day.
