My Big Fat Greek Restaurant is opening, but when?

The manager of the yet-unopened Olathe location of the Arizona-based My Big Fat Greek Restaurant is named Nico. "Just call me Nico R," he says.

He's a little more guarded on subjects other than his name -- like when the full-service Greek restaurant opens at 119th Street and Black Bob Road.

"I can't be too specific about that," he says. "Hopefully by November."

There are now nine locations of My Big Fat Greek Restaurant in the Phoenix area, the headquarters of the chain, and two in Tucson. The company is opening new venues in Olathe (which is hiring; call 913-768-1944 for more information), Colorado and Texas.

The Olathe restaurant will feature a full bar, Nico R. says. And, he adds, "we'll hopefully have live entertainment too."

Opa!

We have been twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times it was wonderful. We tried the gyro platter for lunch and then came back for dinner because it was so good. At dinner I had the chicken kabobs and my husband got the gyro platter again. We also had the flaming cheese appetizer and it was delish. Give this place a try, it is a great place to eat.

We went there last week and I have to say that their food was amazing and better than Mr Gyros. The service was great and their prices for their huge portions very reasonable. Clean and well maintained restaurant. Fun atmosphere opa! We will be back soon for sure!

Damn it. How did that get posted twice?

I went yesterday. The service was good. The gyro was pretty good, but I'd still go to Mr. Gyro's first...their gyros are great and their salads are better than what I had at MBFGR. I do want to try the pizza though

I have to say that the food is amazing. Service is incredible and its the best chance anyone will ever have to experience the beauty of Greece without having to use a passport...

There is already fabulous original Greek food in Olathe at Ari's Greek Restaurant on Santa Fe (135th) between Lindenwood and Mur-Len. A great family owned restaurant with fantastic service.

I apologize for being snarky. I'm sure none of us wants such postings here.

Here's a thought--if it doesn't appeal to you, don't go. But I guess that would take away your chance to sound superior. If you really would skip a restaurant with great food because it's a chain or you think its name doesn't meet your Noel Coward standards, you already have proven yourself to be a lousy customer.

Great! We can't wait for them to open. We had visited one of their Phoenix location and it was great. Their food, atmosphere and service was excellent. We will be there, OPA!

Ditto, Fastmetal.

I hope the food is great. But what a tired name for a restaurant. I don't know if I can bring my big fat non-Greek you-know-what to sit in such a place.
