If you've been following the fortunes of Texas-based Carlson, the hotel and restaurant organization that owns the TGI Friday's restaurant chain, you may have read a news story or two over the last year about Friday's franchises that are suddenly closed with little notice, sometimes after a conflict between the franchisee and the parent company.
A local Friday's employee says the Leawood location, at 11723 Roe, closed Sunday, October 17, "as a surprise to a lot of us."
"I don't think anyone there really knew what was happening," says the Friday's employee, who still works at one of the three remaining
Friday's restaurants in the metro. "We're all a little nervous."
All of the TGI Friday's restaurants in the Kansas City market are owned by a single franchisee, who made the decision to close the Leawood operation, according to Amy Freshwater of the TGI Friday's corporate office "after evaluating all aspects of the business at that particular location."
