Are you Kansas City's next cooking-show contestant? If so, your first challenge is to get past the unsettling picture of Gordon Ramsay on the MasterChef casting website. He looks amused, scared, smug, anxious and pleased with himself all at once.
MasterChef is billed as a nationwide search for the most talented home cooks in America. The winner gets a cash prize, the title of MasterChef and, apparently, the opportunity to be leered at by Ramsay during six weeks of shooting.
There isn't an open call scheduled for Kansas City, but there are Midwest dates in New Orleans, Chicago and Dallas in late November and
early December. Auditioning parties are required to bring a dish that will hold up over however long it takes you to get it there.
You can also apply by submitting a video; instructions for doing so
are on the website. The site doesn't specify that you should include a dish when
you mail the video, but come on -- show some initiative.
