Boulevard's Nutcracker Ale is an early Christmas present

As soon as I saw on the KC Beer Blog yesterday that Boulevard's Nutcracker Ale was starting to hit shelves, I was off to pick up a six pack for myself.

I got rooked one year when I tried to hold out until closer to the holidays, and only managed to get one six-pack before it was all sold out. Thus, Nutcracker Ale now stands as about the only holiday thing I don't mind seeing before December.

Per the box:

"Nutcracker Ale is our interpretation of the classic winter beer: bold, hearty, and warming. We schedule the brewing of this seasonal specialty around the annual harvest of Chinook hops, flying them in wet from the fields to capture their pungent flavor and aroma. Here's a toast to the holidays, and to a peaceful New Year!"
I taste some grapefruit in there, too. Just me?

At some point before the end of the year, I hope to at long last sample Boulevard's Nutcracker Special Reserve. In the meantime, I'll be on the lookout for my other two holiday favorites. The first is Anchor Brewing's Christmas Ale; I wasn't a huge fan of last year's recipe, but I'm optimistic for the 2010 version.

The other? Michelob's Winter's Cask Bourbon Ale. I'm not entirely sure I should admit that.
