Fiesta Azteca, the lively Mexican spot that won "Best Mexican Restaurant" honors in last year's Pitch "Best of Kansas City" issue, is leaving Raytown next month to move into bigger quarters in Lee's Summit.
Owner Andres Orozco has had great success over the last seven years in the small location at 7534 Raytown Road -- too much success, in fact. His business finally outgrew his dining room.
"We should be open in the new location in four weeks," Orozco says. "Everything is lined up and ready to go."
The new location, a former Pizza Shoppe & Pub at 705 Southeast Melody Lane, offers Orozco three times the dining space he had in Raytown: "We'll go from 50 seats to 150 seats," Orozco says.
But what about the Raytown venue's wildly busy decor? In last year's Pitch review of the restaurant, I described the interior design as having "enough Mexican flags, streamers, banners, beer novelties, sombreros and serapes to fill a soccer stadium." Does Orozco have enough stuff to line the new walls?
"Oh, yes, the new dining room will look the same," Orozco promises.
