How far can nostalgia take a restaurant?

I have a special place in my heart for Winstead's. It's where I shared a wedding day hamburger with a bunch of Rodeo Clowns from the American Royal.

So I have a blind spot when it comes to the iconic burger chain. But in talking with a good friend, I learned that not everyone feels the same way about Winstead's and it made me start to wonder just how much the food actually mattered.

"I'm not a big fan of Winstead's," said my friend, "In fact, I think Steak 'n Shake is better."

It took a while for me to process that idea. But the friendly argument that followed ended quickly when I discovered that my friend had a soft spot for Steak 'n Shake because it was the hamburger of his youth.

It isn't always about the food. At times, it can be about what the food represents. And that cures most ills -- a bad bit of service, some undercooked fries or the objective fact that a place is simply not very good.

So, Fat City readers, which spot in town sits in that special place in your heart?
