First, Mr. Peanut. And now, Wendy. It would seem that mascots are angling for a piece of reality television stardom.
Wendy Thomas, the daughter of Wendy's founder Dave Thomas and the namesake of the fast food chain, is starring in a series of advertisements that will be run in Las Vegas to promote the new Dave's Hot 'N Juicy Cheeseburger being tested in that market.
Although she was the inspiration for the pigtailed, red-haired mascot, Thomas has never actually appeared in any advertisements for the chain. But she's making her debut in a series of ads (one of which is above) for the new burger that is Wendy's "hottest and juiciest burger ever."
I get the juiciest concept, but I'm not sure how hottest comes into play. The square patties do look enormous, which fits the trend for fast food burger joints. The Hot N' Juicy will be in the Las Vegas market until June of 2011, when the new burger line will available nationally.
All of the mascot news this week has me wondering what's around the corner. Will the hamburglar finally be unmasked? What became of the Quiznos singing rodents? Tune in to the next edition of mascot beat to find out.
