Michael Smith -- the chef-owner of his namesake upscale restaurant and the less costly but more hip Extra Virgin -- recently returned from a trip to Spain with his wife, Nancy, eating at many famous restaurants. This weekend, the Smiths host one of Italy's famous butchers, Dario Cechinni, who will be cutting up lots of meat for two special sold-out dinners.
Both dinners, priced at $175 a person, feature Cecchini displaying his meat-cutting and cooking skills. "You should see this guy in action," says the publicist for the Smiths. "He can cut up an entire cow in two hours."
Saturday night's dinner -- which sold out early -- features guest chefs Megan and Colby Garrelts of Bluestem, Jasper Mirabile Jr. from Jasper's Restaurant, Ted Habiger of Room 39 and chocolatier Christopher Elbow.
"Dario will be cutting meat for the dishes of all the individual chefs," publicist Paul Evans says.
Even Christopher Elbow?
"Well, not all the chefs," Evans says.
"Actually, Dario is cooking a seven-course Italian family dinner tonight," Nancy Smith tells me. "And tomorrow all of our guest chefs will be preparing a course as well as Michael and Dario."
