  • D'Bronx comes to Mission this month.

Local pizza favorite d'Bronx is set to open this month in Mission. It assumes the space formerly occupied by a Pizza Shoppe franchise, at 6846 Johnson Drive.

Paper still covers the windows, but the sign went up yesterday, and owner Don Foringer -- who was on site this morning -- says the inspection process should be complete by mid-December.

"We'll start with lunch only, and then open for dinner in January," Foringer says.

There are three chain pizza places in Mission, and the addition of

d'Bronx ushers in an era of two home-growns serving New York-style slices. It joins longtime lunch destination Italian Delight.

Mission might be the metro's safest place for competitors to co-exist in peace. Businesses in this suburb -- particularly

along its main thoroughfare, Johnson Drive -- seem to come in pairs. Among other side-by-side entries on the town's Noah's Ark roll of commerce are two liquor stores, two doughnut shops, two bookstores, two old-school

barber shops, and two optometrists (plus three travel agencies and three

martial-arts studios).

Let the cheesy, saucy rumble begin.
