Mandi Skudra's business cards at Dog Nuvo, the hot dog cafe at 1724 Main, state that she's the manager. But starting tomorrow, Skudra will also be the bartender in the restaurant. Owners Marshall Roth and Harry Blasco got their liquor license yesterday.
The sexy Skudra was, like Dog Nuvo's owners Roth and Blasco, an employee of Independence restaurateur and attorney Ken McClain (who is still suing Dog Nuvo's owners for allegedly stealing trade secrets) and has become a popular feature of the restaurant for her shapely figure and saucy personality.
Beginning tomorrow, the hours at Dog Nuvo will be extended until 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. To lure in the dinner crowd, Roth has added a few entrees to the menu, including macaroni and cheese. He's adding appetizers, too (the Dog Nuvo Happy Hour runs from 3 to 7 p.m.), including pierogies from the Pieroguys bakery in the City Market.
And what about that classic 1960s canape, miniature pigs-in-a-blanket?
"That's a good idea," Roth says. "Let me kick that idea around."
