I've definitely had bartenders tell me, "You don't have to go home but you can't stay here." But what if you couldn't go home? What if you had to stay there?
The BBC has the story of seven people picked by Mother Nature to live in a pub for eight days. Find out what happens when a snowstorm causes people to stop being polite and start being real.
The truth is that they stay polite, so long as the beer doesn't run out. A British couple and five staff members at the Lion Inn in North Yorkshire, England, spent what sounds like a pleasant eight days with games, Internet access and a group bedtime.
The story got me thinking about where I'd like to spend eight days if given the choice of any Kansas City bar. There would have to be adequate food and beer. Also, while I suspect that I'd be happy at the Peanut for two days, those chicken wings might be a little tough to tackle on day five.
Hotel bars are a possibility because of all the beds upstairs. Although if you're in a bar, do you really need a comfortable bed? For my money, I'd take nature's eight-day lock-in at the Czar Bar. The drinks are reasonably priced, and with Otto's burgers and malts, sleep would come easily on a full stomach.
One bar? Eight days. Where's it going to be?
