Yesterday, when we wrote about Sean Moriarty, former R Bar bartender, finding a new job at the Majestic Restaurant, R Bar owner Joy Jacobs wasn't around to comment. This morning, she called Fat City.
"Sean is a great guy and a great bartender, but we get really busy here on weekends and I don't think he liked the chaotic pace of those weekend nights," Jacobs told me today. "Sean prefers smaller, more low-key venues where he can talk to the customers."
"If that's what she says," Moriarty says, laughing, "let's stick with that."
The R Bar's new bartender -- he starts tonight -- is young Bronson Kistler, formerly of the recently shuttered JP Wine Bar.
Another new R Bar employee starts work this week: new general manager Sean O'Brien. "He's from Kansas City originally," Jacobs says, "but moved back from Chicago where he was working at O'Malley's Pub."
The R Bar's chef, Alex Pope, is also introducing a new bar-food menu, including macaroni and cheese made with salami. A new addition to the dinner menu, Jacobs says, is a veal meatloaf served with braised cabbage and mashed potatoes.

I knew Joy in high school. Seems like things around her haven't changed much.
I think someone is hungry for a good story. I love Shawn and he was "one" of the reasons for the great success of R Bar,
It takes a village to create something so lovely. We were a village for a good year. Shawn was offered another opportunity and he took it. I am looking forward to sitting at his new bar and having a cocktail. Cheers Shawn, you are a wonderful bartender and a great addition to this city where ever you are.
See you soon:)
I find it all interesting and I'm not involved. Keep up the good work!
Sounds like she called them and said those things. Nobody had to make her call the Pitch back, nobody made her say things, she could have said "Both parties decided to go in a different direction" or some sort of white lie.
Good lord...does someone at Fat City have something against that woman? What the hell is the point to posting all this allusive nonsense about why someone might've chosen to move on from their former job to a new one?
It's almost as obnoxious as the continued mentions about the hot dog place (Dog Nuvo, or whatever?) that has owners that are being sued by their former partner...the drama is uninteresting to those not involved in it. Let it go.
