You might not be able to find great bagels in Kansas City, but at least you can kvetch about it at Bagel Bash 2010.
The annual party organized by the Jewish Federation of Kansas City is
Thursday. Head over to Taste (7938 Santa Fe in Overland
Park) at 8 p.m. for an open bar and the restaurant's small plates.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $30 at the door.
Christmas Eve with family doesn't have to mean spending Christmas Eve
with your family's cooking. You'll be happier with the family recipes
of Lidia Bastianich at her restaurant, Lidia's Kansas City
(101 W. 22nd St.). The Crossroads spot holds an annual Feast of
the Seven Fishes, a traditional Italian meal that brings family
together around, you guessed it, dishes made from seven fishes. The $40
seafood extravaganza starts at 6:30 p.m. Call 816-221-3722 to make a reservation.
If you're craving turf more than surf, Starker's Restaurant
(201 W. 47th St.) on the Plaza is open from 5:30 to 10 p.m. December 24. Christmas comes early, thanks to chef John McClure's
grilled ribeye with Shatto Dairy creamed spinach and crawfish
bordelaise. Call 816-753-3565 to make a reservation.
And if you need
liquid courage to face Christmas Day, try Pachamama's
(800 New Hampshire) in Lawrence. The weekly TGIF wine tasting focuses
on domestic sparkling wines. Show up between 6 and 8 p.m. to start the
tasting for $25 and forget all about the Christmas sweater you'll be
wearing the following day.
